Dr. Glen Borchert
Dr. Borchert is Chief Geneticist at GTR and Associate Professor of Pharmacology at
the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. He
completed a PhD in Interdisciplinary Genetics in 2007 at
the University of Iowa, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at
UC Berkeley in the world’s foremost
genetic manipulation lab under Dr. Jennifer Doudna
(inventor of CRISPR-Cas9 genomic editing). Since starting
his own laboratory in 2012, Dr. Borchert has received
numerous awards, published >25 articles characterizing
genomes, and received >$3.5M in federal funding.
Notably, in 2014, the Genetic Mechanisms Cluster of the
National Science Foundation named Dr. Borchert a NSF
CAREER Investigator - the most prestigious honor
bestowed by the NSF. Dr. Borchert’s current research
focuses on identifying novel genes and genetic regulators
in an array of bacterial, plant, and animal systems.
